The Discovery II: Finding the Cause... Again

It was time for more research. I had to find out what could be causing these sudden, dramatic multi-symptom episodes.

Mercury

The obvious first place to search was in mercury-related research, especially considering previous research had shown that all of these symptoms can be related to mercury. My obvious target of research was the Jamestown power plant.

I already knew about the large amounts of mercury being emitted by the power plant, but what didn't make sense was the way the symptoms came on so suddenly and then went away over the course of an hour or two.

Melting Snow

Some research revealed that mercury vapor can become trapped within snow, and that it becomes released when snow melts. I explored this idea by seeing if the episodes occurred when snow was melting, that is, on sunny days when snow was on the ground.

I found that this correlated sometimes, but not always. In fact, I discounted the idea when all the snow had melted but I was still having the sudden onset of symptoms.

One Afternoon

One afternoon, I was doing more research and found something very shocking. A few people on the web were reporting that they were having the same type of episodes that I was having, and they had a strange theory to explain the cause.

They said that their symptoms occurred only when large plumes appeared in the sky. These large plumes were being emitted by slow-flying, low-flying jets and the plumes would slowly spread out across the sky, causing their symptoms.

An Eccentric Idea

Initially, this idea seemed a little eccentric to me, but because I had a background in researching history and politics, I already knew that many countries, including the United States, had a long history of testing chemical and biological substances on citizens without their knowledge or consent. Although this is a little hard to believe for some people, it is well-documented and well-known among researchers.

With this background, I decided not to discard the idea involving jets, but rather to look into it further.

I also had an immediate interest in the purpose behind these huge airborne plumes, because I had been witnessing them in our area but just wrote them off as some temporary event without much consideration.

Lines In the Sky

Jamestown is in a beautiful part of the United States, so I would often go out on weekends driving around taking pictures of beautiful scenes.

The previous few months I had often become frustrated on my photography-drives because I found that there were huge, white plumes in the sky. These plumes often ruined any opportunity of capturing a great picture of the beautiful western New York skyline or sunset.

I remember thinking how strange these trails were -- obviously left by flying jets -- because they never appeared before. Since childhood, I had a keen interest in rockets and jets and had always been a sky-watcher.

Every time I heard a jet, I looked up and tried to find it. Even as a child, I could name every U.S. rocket launcher and payload unit, and I could name all U.S. fighters as well. As one of my favorite subjects, I knew that jets don't leave lines in the sky, at least not under normal conditions. In fact, with the exception of the previous few months, and one time a year or so earlier when I was out west, I had never seen plumes in the sky.
