Decline The Slow Decline BeginsI had wanted to get away from the high-pressure and growing crime of the Tampa-St. Pete-Clearwater suburbs for a long time, so in February of 2003 I moved to Jamestown, New York. My father died a year before from liver failure. He had cancer and was on a chemotherapy drug called fluorouracil for an extended period which I believe caused his liver failure. His house was in jeopardy from creditors, so I decided to purchase it, move into it, and get the title cleared. I had family there and looked forward to getting to know them better. Health Declines SlowlyDuring the time I lived in the house in Jamestown, my health declined very slowly. It was nothing like I had experienced with mercury from amalgam fillings, but over the first couple years, I had fatigue set in little-by-little. I also found that my vision -- which had always been perfect -- began to become far-sighted. This was not an extreme or debilitating type of health decline, but it was noticeable enough for me to begin searching for the cause in my spare time. The Power PlantJamestown is a unique city in that it has its own electrical power plant, run by the Jamestown Board of Public Utilities. For this reason, electricity prices are fantastically low. This plant is located smack in the middle of the Jamestown suburbs right at the edge of downtown. Google Earth buffs can look down one of its smoke stacks by visiting the following location:
Up to this point, I had done a lot on research on mercury, from a health perspective. During this research I learned that coal-burning power plants are a major source of mercury pollution. The plant in Jamestown produces and emits between 100 and 250 pounds of mercury per year. To anyone who understands how little mercury it takes to make someone sick, anxious, depressed, or schizophrenic, this is an enormous amount of mercury. As I continued researching, I discovered that my house was directly downwind from the power plant. What Mercury DoesBecause of how extremely reactive mercury is, it damages cells in every human -- and animal -- it touches. It destroys DNA, kills cells, and literally tears apart nerves. In fact, it interferes with or destroys every body system, but it does so slowly, over a long period of time. The symptoms that one will experience with mercury poisoning vary greatly depending on many factors. Some factors are genetic, some factors are related to personal habits, some factors are related to the type of mercury one is exposed to, and some factors are based on the method in which you are exposed. For example, with amalgam fillings, people are exposed mostly by ingesting mercury from the amalgam filling surfaces. With vaccines -- like the flu shot (yes, certain types of the flu shot contain mercury which attenuates immune system function) -- mercury is injected directly into the blood stream bypassing the first -- and arguably the most important -- line of defense in the immune system, which resides in the gut. When exposed to mercury vapor, such as that coming from a coal-burning power plant, your main exposure is by inhalation into the lungs, exposure to the eyes, and exposure on the skin. For this reason, this kind of exposure causes symptoms like fatigue, depression, anxiety, brain fog, and eye problems like near- and far- sightedness. This information combined with the fact that I had already been mercury poisoned and had not fully detoxed (it normally takes years to detox mercury) led me to conclude that the power plant was probably the main cause of my new slowly-increasing health issues. Fortunately, my knowledge of herbal medicine -- which I acquired during my initial mercury poisoning -- enabled me to mitigate my new health issues to a reasonable degree. « Previous Page | Next Page » |
