Maximum Contaminant Levels: Barium

This page contains maximum contaminant levels for barium.

Drinking Water

Summary: Water is not safe to drink if barium exceeds 100 µg/L (micrograms per cubic liter).

EPA: 100 µg/L before 1/91, 200 µg/L after 1/91 MCL - U.S. EPA2
The U.S. EPA doubled acceptable barium levels from 100 µg/L to 200 µg/L in January, 1991.2 Just as the EPA raised acceptable radiation levels after Fukashima3, we believe the EPA likely raised acceptable barium levels in anticipation of the fallout that they knew would be generated by upcoming geoengineering programs. Interestingly, the EPA raised acceptable aluminum levels at the same time.

California: 100 µg/L MCL - The California Department of Public Health2
Despite the fact that the EPA doubled acceptable barium levels, California maximums remain the same.

Colorado: 200 µg/L MCL - Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment1
