"The Indo-Pacific region is no exception to global trends towards increasing de/re-territorialisation as well as securitization of climate ‘spaces’. Those who are most vulnerable are being discursively turned into most dangerous in doomsday Malthusian scenarios of climate catastrophism and imaginaries of climate change as a ‘threat multiplier’ and ‘weapon of mass destruction’ in the context of an ongoing ‘war on terror’. Climate change is geopolitically embodied through discourses of fear and terror and placed at the service of various domestic and foreign policy agendas, both in Bangladesh and India, by referencing the ‘threat’ of millions of ‘climate migrants’ and ‘climate refugees’. In Israel/Palestine the old geopolitics of fear/terror is being strategically redeployed to prevent the allegedly threatening ‘Other’ from trespassing the ‘Borderdom’ of the ‘Ethnocratic State’ due to climate change.

Whether upscaling the discourses of ‘climate fear’ to ‘climate terror’, with the help of new metaphors and imaginative geographies, will help in meeting the multiscalar, multifaceted challenge of global warming in the Indo-Pacific and beyond, needs critical social science investigation."
