However, Kouvelis has continued in his way to try to pursue what he thinks are correct citizen politics.
The political party he was in, the Synaspismos, renamed Syriza, a reformed post-Communist party, was handed over to the control of a young leftist noisemaker who specializes in supporting destructive and pointless street confrontations.

But also continued afterwards, with people being killed. Tsipras is not responsible for these deaths, but he pursues a self-referential kind of politics that achieves only this kind of result.
More importantly, perhaps, the party headed by Tsipras systematically ignores all really radical critiques of political and social reality. It is a party of what in the United States is called "the gatekeeper Left".
Kouvelis led a break away from the party of Tsipras and supported the successful 2010 Athens mayoral campaign of the former Greek ombudsman Giorgos Kaminis.

The argument over anthropogenic climate change would be totally lacking in interest to a politician like Kouvelis. He is admittedly a lawyer, not a scientist, but generally speaking most Greeks assume that anthropogenic climate is a reality, without bothering about the details.
