I'm new to this forum and found this thread really to the point as i'm trying to inform myself on the European project to study conspiracy theory - Comparative Analysis of Conspiracy Theories aka COMPACT.

As is mentionned already in this thread, the COMPACT project is EU funded through its auxiliary COST, the European Cooperation in Science and Technology who in turn is backed by the Horizon 2020 framework (Horizon 2020 is a 7 year 80 billion € project).

The project started in 2016 quite humourously the 1st of April with a meeting in Brussels*. There are 120 researchers from 33 european countries engaged in the research on conspiracy theory in Europe, and the funding is somewhat obscure - around 180.000€ per year in the 2016-2020 period.

The finality of the COMPACT program is by the commissions own words to "generate the thorough comprehension of the history, politics, sociology, rhetoric and psychology of conspiracy theories needed to counter their often harmful effects on democratic values. Conspiracy theories have so far not at all been studied as comprehensively as their manifest importance demands"

The term and use of "conspiracy" and "conspiracy theory" has been brilliantly exposed by Denglisch in this forum thread, and i definately have learned from the discussion in this thread - especially on conspiracies despite i am also aware of Chemtrails and other "conspiracies" that are not merely theory..

It is of importance that the use of conspiracy theory is fairly recent and is an integral part of a strategy by the intelligence community to silence dissent, uncomfortable facts, free expression and above all with COMPAC : to identify the individuals who persist against all winds to do independant investigative work*.
