"Or that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change now says that if we want to stay below a 2-degree Celsius (3.6-degree Fahrenheit) increase in average global temperature, we can't emit any more carbon dioxide than what's released by burning 1 trillion tons of carbon. But we've already used more than half our allotment."

As we know already: There were 280 ppm CO² in the earth atmosphere in pre-industrial times.
CO² has a climate sensitivity of 3° Celsius in total. This CO² climate sensitivity is logarythmic structured with 1,5° Celsius for the first 20 ppm CO². There WAS already a 1,5° Celsius temperature rise in the atomsphere of earth for the first 20 ppm CO² - a long time ago.

If there was already this temperature rise because of CO² in the past there is no temperature rise because of CO² threatening civilization in the future!

So: Why don't we need another billion people? Because of singularity?
