Iron Mountain Report: Legitimize Governments Using Intentional Global Pollution as a Substitute for War



The Report from Iron Mountain was published during the Johnson Administration in 1967. It states that it was produced by a special study Group of fifteen men arranged by the U.S. government. The report was to remain secret was not intended to be made public.

The Report from Iron Mountain details this panel's conclusions that war, or some "credible substitute for war", is necessary if governments are to maintain legitimacy in the public eye and maintain power.

The book was a New York Times bestseller and has been translated into fifteen languages.

As the report gained credibility among academics, satirist Leonard Lewin later claimed authorship, although it has become widely believed that Lewin's claim of authorship is a damage-control mechanism.

Harvard professor John Kenneth Galbraith publicly stated that he knew firsthand of the report's authenticity because he had been invited to participate in its creation. He wrote: "As I would put my personal repute behind the authenticity of this document, so would I testify to the validity of its conclusions. My reservation relates only to the wisdom of releasing it to an obviously unconditioned public". Galbraith later back-stepped his position under apparent pressure from mainstream media.
