Last night I heard the planes around 2 AM. There are no scheduled commercial flights to or from Maui or even Honolulu between 12 and 4 AM. This has always been the case, but I checked the flight patterns again just now to be sure. (see flightaware dot com) It's very unusual to say the least to hear a jet pass over this rural area in the middle of the night...
This is what I saw when I walked outside at 9:30 AM. These are NOT "contrails". I have NEVER seen a contrail in Hawaii in 35 years of living here. EVER. Only recently I am starting to see these linear cloud patterns. Within a few hours, these lines morphed into a hazy white glowing stationary (no wind, not moving, not coming from elsewhere) CLOUD COVER, with the striations (linear streaks) still clearly visible above."
